The District recently completed this 440 kilowatt solar array project to power its water treatment plant. The array, which actually went on line on August 19, 2015, provides all the power necessary to operate the plant.

The array, which consists of 1,422 panels, was constructed by SunSense Solar of Carbondale. The owner, Samuel Engineering, out of Denver, has a lease agreement with the District that allows, over time, for a discounted rate for the electricity through an electric credit agreement with Holy Cross Electric. This allows the District to save an estimated $200,000 in electric costs during the 20 year life of the agreement.

At the end of the agreement period, the solar array installation becomes the property of the District.
